Why?

There is clearly a need for young people to be at the heart of regeneration, developing the communities of the future and enhancing life chances for all concerned. The Centrepoint Project is being formed to coordinate youth provision within this wider framework, with a focus on the wider Wednesbury area.

The underlying belief to all of this is that all young people are ‘our young people’ and thinking in terms of support being given to them – the time, energy and resources – is an investment for the whole community, both in the short term and for years to come. Therefore if we want to change our communities for the better, we have to take action now.

The Centrepoint Project will use outreach and detached work to contact and build relationships with young people, and also promote its work widely in the local community. Young people will have opportunities to become more actively involved through the new Impact Youth Theatre and the N-Gage Youth Engagement strand.

The development of the project will work on a phased basis, initially starting in local centres eventually moving into a state of the art Centrepoint Building at the heart of the local community.

The project builds on the patchwork of organisations currently offering a varied selection of arts and community initiatives in the local area, extrapolating good practice whilst rekindling the offer and opportunity to young and old alike. The Centrepoint Project believes it can transform the local areas through partnership and participation. These are the keys to unlocking the vast potential within the many people of the town. It is a fragmented community and much of the good work already being carried out is done piecemeal and in isolation from other work.
