The N-Gage Young People's Strategy

The Centrepoint Young People’s Engagement Strategy will see an employed team of youth workers with a remit which eventually includes:

provision of a ‘Youth Bus’ which works in the local area
organising sports, arts, drama, and other activities
mentoring and supporting young people
offering coaching and counselling
working with specific groups, such as young carers or those at risk of offending
developing and running projects that tackle issues like health, bullying, crime, or substance misuse
managing volunteers and part-time workers
nurturing ‘home grown’ leaders for the future
networking with other professionals including social workers, teachers, probation officers and the police to support other community initiatives.

In addition, mobile-based outreach work will be developed which offers informal drop-in and more structured sessions around issues such as drug and alcohol awareness, sexual health, parenting, anti-social behaviour and help with CVs and homework. The programme will be developed in consultation with a steering group of young people involved with the project and the good practice which is already evident in the local area. Detached youth workers will offer young people support and advice in areas such as employment, training, personal development and the youth justice system. The ‘Youth Bus’ will offer late night sessions and will aim to target young people not taking part in other organised youth activities. In addition, the project has an ambitious plan to create new STeams – Street Teams, who become a regular part of life on the streets in the local area, where they engage with residents and young people. The focus of the engagement strand is to simply meet young people where they are at and seek to help transform their lives for the better.
